Apparently the goodly denizens of Middle Earth enjoy a good piece of tomfoolery now and then. The antics reach their apex during the Autumn Harvest Festival when adventurers and crafting folk are invited to play tricks on others in return for harvest tokens and four special masks.

The masks are divided racially:

Dwarf Mask – Bucket Head

Man Mask – Beaver

Hobbit Mask – Jack O’ Lantern (Pumpkin)

Elf Mask – Rabbit

Each mask costs 12 harvest tokens and a mask promissory note you receive after completing a Trove and Trickery quest. You can repeat each of these four quests once per day and each time you complete one you will earn 3 Harvest Tokens. Be careful to only choose the Mask promissory note once as a reward – you only need one note for your mask.

These masks are purely cosmetic and look … pretty interesting. They are non-binding, so you can transfer them to an alternate character or give them to friends if you like.

To complete each of the quests you must find four denizens of that town and perform an emote while targeting them. You can recognize which NPC you need to talk to by a blue ring above their head. Each one will provide you with a clue as to what emote you should perform.

I have listed the appropriate NPC, their location and the proper emote for each quest below:

Hobbiton

You can take this quest from Trickster Egbert Took (29.9S,71.4W), located under a tent on the west side of the Party Tree.

Porto Brownlock (30.6S,70.7W) /smoke

Ted Sandyman (30.8S,71.2W) /stretch

Lobelia Sackville-Baggins (29.4S,71.3W) /faint

Daddy Twofoot (31.4S,71.1W) /pick

Duillond

The Elven Troves and Tricks quest comes from Trickster Gloreniel (24.5S,93.1W) who is located near the path just outside the area of the Elven festivities in Duillond.

Lubathred (24.3S,92.5W) /cower

Fanhir (24.0S,92.6W) /roar

Nathrowen (24.2S,92.7W) /handstand

Barchiril (25.0S,90.6W) /whippitydo

Bree

A lot of people miss Trickster Bryony Elmwood (30.1S,51.3W), because they expect her to be near the Bree-land party area, but in fact she is located near the Boar Fountain in central Bree town. All the NPCs to be tricked are also located within Bree.

Tad Ashmead (31.3S,51.1W) /dustoff

Tad Leafcutter (31.8S,51.4W) /shiver

Matt Heathertoes (31.2S,52.5W) /mock

Lily Sandheaver (29.4S,52.3W) /yawn

Thorin’s Hall

You get the Dwarven Troves and Tricks quest from Trickster Guthlag located to the right of the large statue in the entrance. Finding the NPCs to trick here from a list like this is slightly more challenging because the ;loc command does not work in Thorin’s Hall.

Fathi, Kaupi or Farmann (Auctioneers in room behind Guthlag) /charge

Adwyn Flameye(near the hunter trainer) /pushups

Dwalin(on the throne in very back) /tantrum

Egil Oldbeard (in Maker’s Hall near a supplier) /flex

The Harvest Festival is once more upon us, and the good Free Peoples of Middle Earth are once more celebrating the seasonal turn with games and merriment.

There are several different components of the Harvest Festival: horse and pony races, trick-playing, harvest party games and the carry over farming event from the Summer Festival. In this post I’ll go over the four repeatable party games.

There is one game located near each race’s starting zone and you can complete each quest once every hour. These games, aren’t really games as we might think of one. They each involve simply looting a container next to the festival barter merchant, called the Game Master, then turning it into him or her. When looting the container you have a random chance of receiving one of three grades of a particular item.

After looting that item from the container, you can then turn it in to the Game Master for Harvest Tokens. You then use these Harvest Tokens to barter with the merchant for a variety of items, comprised mainly of house decorations.

Bree-land

Pick a Pumpkin from the small patch located next to Bess Forester (24.6S, 51.3W). She is located at the Bree-land party grounds north of the town of Bree. You can turn in these pumpkins for the following rewards:

Small Pumpkin – 1 Harvest Token

Medium Pumpkin – 2 Harvest Tokens

Large Pumpkin – 3 Harvest Tokens

The Shire

Bob for Apples in the tubs located near Sawlo Puddifoot (29.9S, 71.62W), The Shire’s Game Master. He is located just to the south-west of the famous Party Tree. You can turn in these apples for the following rewards:

Small Apple – 1 Harvest Token

Medium Apple – 2 Harvest Token

Large Apple – 3 Harvest Token

Thorin’s Hall

Reach inside the chest and pick out a geode. Give it to Thorin’s Hall’s Game Master, Dyri (13.7S, 103W). He is located in the Dwarven Tavern located underground. The tunnels to reach it are in the north-eastern part of the city. You can turn in these geodes for the following rewards:

Cracked Geode – 1 Harvest Token

Pristine Geode – 2 Harvest Token

Flawless Geode – 3 Harvest Token

Duillond

If you are not familiar with the town of Duillond, it is located just north of Celondim in Ered Luin. Here you will be looting scrolls for your tokens and handing them in to Malenfas (24.5S, 93W), the Games Master for the proud Elves. You can turn in these scrolls for the following rewards:

Unimpressive Scroll – 1 Harvest Token

Well-Written Scroll – 2 Harvest Token

Elegant Scroll – 3 Harvest Token

Quest Level: 28

This is an exploration quest which will take you on a tour of the North Downs around Esteldin. You will need to click five founding stones scattered around the map.

To start this quest, visit the tower located in the northeast corner of Esteldin. Inside the door (a small instance) you will see the a book Of Arthedain and its Settlements. Click the book to start the quest then speak to Istuienn who, as luck would have it, is standing right outside the door of the tower.

You will next need to find and click the Stone of Dolindir (9.6S, 42.1W) located within Esteldin. This is in the middle of the area near the class trainers and stable. After clicking the stone return to Istuienn.

Now you must find and click the remaining four stones:

Stone of Henneth Rhun 11.2S, 52.0W

Stone of Duintham 9.4S, 47.7W

Stone of Carnoglin 7.3S, 46.8W

Stone of Ost Ardulin 15.2S, 43.2W

After you have clicked all four of these stones, return to Istuienn for the last time to receive your experience points and Taringor.

Advancing in cooking isn’t all just collecting ingredients and pushing buttons. In order to advance through the tiers of Cooking and emerge a Grand Master, you must complete the following five quests.

Journeyman: A Taste of Skill, Part I

You get this quest from any Novice Cook (list). To complete this quest you must talk to Alken Chubb at Green Dragon Inn, Bywater in the Shire (31.80S, 69.64W). After you speak with him you will receive Craft Cook Complete Proficiency Tier I which allows you to advance to the next Cooking tier. Pretty simple, huh?

Expert: A Taste of Skill, Part II

You also get this quest from any Novice Cook (list). But for this quest you will be required to learn and use a new recipe, Serene Stew.

To get the recipe for Serene Stew and advance along this quest you must once again talk to Alken Chubb at the Green Dragon Inn (31.80S, 69.64W). It is a lot easier to to gather the ingredients for this quest before you talk to him.

Make sure to pick up 1x Water, 1x Cut of Beef and 2x Taters and 1x Shire Seasonings (for the Spiced Potatoes) before leaving your Novice Cook. You will also need a Yellow Onion which you can farm or buy from the Auction House. The difficult-to-get ingredient for this recipe is a sprig of Mountain Basil found on Weathertop in the Lone-Lands. Weathertop is located northwest of the Forsaken Inn.

For completing this quest you will receive Journeyman Cook Proficiency (Tier II).

Artisan: A Taste of Skill, Part III

To unlock the next cooking skill tier, Tier III, you will once again receive a quest from any Novice Cook (list). This time you must talk to Rollo Hamson who lives in Buckland near the Brandywine Bridge (31.79S, 62.67W). For doing this you will receive Expert Cook Proficiency (Tier III).

Superior: After completing the Artisan Quest, Rollo Hamson gives you the following quests, known collectively as The Short Order Cook quest.

When you have completed all these quests return to Rollo Hamson to gain the trait that allows access to the Superior Ovens in Michel Delving. Completing this quests will also allow you to complete the next and final quest below.

Master: A Taste of Skill, Part IV

Jewel Underhill, the Expert Cook in Michel Delving (34.58S, 75.52W), will ask you to speak with Pasco Grubb in Michel Delving (34.6S, 75.6W). He wants you to cook a Roast of Heroes, which is composed of 1x Savory Seasonings and 1x Giant Boar Flank.

The Giant Boar Flank comes from the level 37 Giant Grey Stonehoof boar which you can find in the northern part of Giant Valley in the Trollshaws (6.6S, 34.8W). While the boar itself is not the hardest beast to defeat, this area is exceedingly dangerous so you should bring some friends.

And finally you will receive Craft Cook Complete Proficiency Tier IV, the top tier of Cooking in LOTRO.

One of the more sought-after titles in LOTRO, “Shire Brew-Master,” is a lot easier to get than most people think.

What do Hobbits love more than full dinner plate and a smoking bowl of pipe-weed? A good-sized tankard of beer, that’s what!

One of the more sought-after titles in LOTRO, “Shire Brew-Master,” is a lot easier to get than most people think. Well, it’s not that easy … but at least you don’t have to dodge any Hungry Hobbits.

In order to gain this title you must complete a quest at each of the Shire’s five pubs:

The Bird and Baby – Collect the Yellowed Recipe for Carlo Blagrove, innkeeper of The Bird and Baby. The Yellowed Recipe is located on a shelf in the library of the Great Smials in Tuckborough.

The Floating Log – Ponto Hopsbloom has asked you to pick 12 Frog Hops for his famous beer. Frog Hops grow all over the marsh north of Frogmorton and look like white flowers. Simply pick 12 of them and return to Hopsbloom.

The Golden Perch - Gunderic Grubb has sent you to search the brigand camp Narrowcleeve for his missing package of yeast. Narrowcleeve is located in the hills south of Woodhall, about mid-way between Tuckborough and Farmer Maggot’s farm. The yeast is located in the second encampment on the right-hand side near a lone Brigand Boss (35.1S, 66.9W).

The Green Dragon – Barmy Rootknot, the assistant innkeeper at The Green Dragon Inn, has sent you off in search of a lost brandy-barrel. It is located in Lob’s Grove at the base of a pillar (26.8S, 71.8W).

The Plough and Stars – Halson Tubwort has asked you to collect his powdered gypsum from a cart waylaid by goblins north of Brockenborings. After leaving the pub you must speak to Wilcome Tunnelly (27.6S, 66.4W) at the quarry. The gypsum is in a cart (24.8S, 66.9W) just inside the goblin area in the northeast corner of Greenfields.

Once you have completed these five tasks you will be able to let everyone know that just because you like your beer, you’re no lazy Hobbit!

Fresh from the trials and tribulations of working your way up through the Shire Postal Service’s food chain and you still want more grab-and-dash quests? Well take a run over to Holly Hornblower in Hobbiton (31.2S, 71.1W).

She sets you off on a mad dash to distribute her pies across the Shire. In return you will receive the Virtue Trait Patience +1, along with Hornblower’s Pie Recipe, a sample Hornblower’s Pie and the title “Pie-runner” which will let everyone know that you are Holly’s b… est friend.

The Spoiled Pie Quests run along the same lines as the Postal Quests: pick up spoiled pies at the 12 locations below and run back to Holly, all the while avoiding water, dangerous beasts and Hungry Hobbits.

The Quests:

Pie for the Green Dragon (ending at 31.8S, 69.4W) Deliver Holly Hornblower’s pie to Gerd Whitfoot in the Green Dragon Inn in Bywater.

Lobelia’s Pie (ending at 29.4S, 71.3W) Holly Hornblower wants you to take Lobelia’s pie to Opal at the Party Field then speak to Lobelia Sackville-Baggins.

No Place for Spoiled Pies (with starting locs) Holly Hornblower wants you bring all the spoiled pies back to her in Hobbiton-Bywater.

Spoiled Pie from Little Delving (32.0S, 76.6W)

Spoiled Pie from Michel Delving (34.1S, 75.1W)

Spoiled Pie from Bywater (31.8S, 69.4W)

Spoiled Pie from the Party Field (29.6S, 71.6W)

Spoiled Pie from Needlehole (28.1S, 75.9W)

Spoiled Pie from Tuckborough (33.5S, 70.9W)

Spoiled Pie from Budgeford (31.1S, 65.4W)

Spoiled Pie from Frogmorton (31.2S, 52.5W)

Spoiled Pie from Stock (32.1S, 63.7W)

Spoiled Pie from Woodhall (33.3S, 65.6W)

Spoiled Pie from Brockenborings (31.2S, 52.5W)

Spoiled Pie from Scary (27.8S, 66.4W)

A True Friend of Holly Hornblower (31.2S, 71.1W) You have run all over the Shire helping to return spoiled pies to Holly Hornblower – no small feat! Talk to her for your reward.

These quests are another of Turbine’s awesome Hobbit quest chains which take skill and luck but don’t require you to kill anything. A bonus for parents who want to play LOTRO with their children, but are afraid of the constant kill-kill-kill action typical to RPGs and for players who are just a little tired of killing rats for fun.

The Shire’s Postmen need your help! It seems that with all the gossip flying around the Shire about Lobelia Sackville-Baggins’ party the daily post has fallen behind. This is your chance to earn a trait and a title.

The Shire’s Postmen need your help! It seems that with all the gossip flying around the Shire about Lobelia Sackville-Baggins’ party the daily post has fallen behind.

There are 13(+1) Postal Quests that comprise Restoring the Quick Post. They are all essentially the same quest, but because of the Shire’s geography they all take different amounts of skill and luck. To complete them you must grab a satchel of mail from the table of the Postman you just accepted the quest from. Then RUN!

As soon as you pick up the bag, a you will see a timer on your screen – you must carry the bag of mail to the next Postman within that time. And you can’t take damage or fall in the water along the way. Did I mention to watch out for the Nosey Hobbits? Fortunately they show up on your mini-map so you can easily avoid them.

So what do you get for completing these quests other than a 90 copper tip? By completing the main 13 quests you will earn the Virtue Trait Patience +1. And by capping those 13 quests off with a trip to Postmaster Proudfoot in Michel Delving you will also get the Postmaster’s Cloak and the title “of the Quick Post” so you can let everyone know you are an official Postman or Postwoman of the Shire.

After you grab the mail from the Postman’s table I suggest staying on the road unless you see a Nosey Hobbit’s eye near you on your mini-map. Then simply head off the road for a bit – their range of sight isn’t that large. But because you’re on a timer make sure not to stop. Just keep running. To plan out your route ahead of time, take a look at the MEHQ dynamic map.

The Quests (with beginning loc):

Bundle for Michel Delving (28.1S, 75.9W) Postman Redsmith of Needlehole has asked you to deliver a satchel to Postmaster Proudfoot in Michel Delving.

Bundle for Waymeet (33.4S, 75.0W) Postmaster Proudfoot of Michel Delving has asked you to deliver a satchel to Postman Twofoot in Waymeet.

Bundle for Needlehole (32.8S, 73.0W) Postman Twofoot of Waymeet has asked you to deliver a satchel to Postman Redsmith in Needlehole.

Bundle for Hobbiton (33.0S, 71.0W) Postman Took of Tuckborough has asked you to deliver a satchel to Postman Grubb in Hobbiton.

Bundle for Michel Delving (31.8S, 76.7W) Postman Newbuck of Little Delving has asked you to deliver a satchel to Postmaster Proudfoot in Michel Delving.

Bundle for Tuckborough (33.4S, 75.0W) Postmaster Proudfoot of Michel Delving has asked you to deliver a satchel to Postman Took in Tuckborough.

Bundle for Bywater (28.1S, 70.1W) Postman Boffin of Overhill has asked you to deliver a satchel to Postman Cotton in Bywater.

Bundle for Overhill (31.2S, 71.3W) Postman Grubb of Hobbiton has asked you to deliver a satchel to Postman Boffin in Overhill.

Bundle for Budgeford (31.9S, 63.8W) Postman Smallburrow of Stock has asked you to deliver a satchel to Postman Bolger in Budgeford.

Bundle for Stock (33.3S, 65.7W) Postman Spinner of Woodhall has asked you to deliver a satchel to Postman Smallburrow in Stock.

Bundle for Woodhall (32.1S, 68.2W) Postman Oddfoot of Frogmorton has asked you to deliver a mail satchel to Postman Spinner in Woodhall.

Bundle for Scary (31.2S, 65.4W) Postman Bolger of Budgeford has asked you to deliver a satchel of mail to Postman Digswell in Scary.

Bundle for Brockenborings (27.8S, 66.5W) Postman Digswell of Scary has asked you to deliver a satchel to Postman Moresby in Brockenborings.

A True Friend to the Quick Post (33.4S, 75W) You have helped to restore the good name of the Quick Post, and Postmaster Proudfoot is delighted at what you have done.

With these quests (along with a few others), Turbine has taken a decided step toward offering MMORPG players quest-lines that require both real skill and in-game awareness of your surroundings without relying on the general murder/mayhem that is par for the course in this genre.

Quest Level 15 – Champions only

When you hit level 15 as a champion you receive the quest Blade of Renown from any of the Champion trainers in Middle Earth. This gives you a great trait, Vicious Strikes, and the Guardian’s Axe, a nice one-handed axe. Not coincidentally, Vicious Strikes comes just as your first Class Trait slot opens. So if you haven’t earned a class trait through any deeds, this trait will fit nicely there.

After accepting the quest from your champion trainer you must speak with Ultan Foebane. He’s the weird dwarf hanging out in a cart right outside the Combe Gate on the east side of Bree. He tasks you to defeat three enemies: Zhurpukh of the Deeps, Fair Sherman and Morley the Fierce. To help, he gives you a note that describes the locations of each.

Even though the note is fairly descriptive, these guys can be a real pain to find unless you know where you’re looking:

Zhurpukh roams along the eastern boundary of the Midgewater Marsh (click for map).

Fair Sherman is hiding out in the ruins of Andrath (click for map).

Morley the Fierce is hiding amongst the ruins of the Old Greenway Fort located northeast of Bree (click for map).

None of the guys are especially difficult. I did the quest at level 17 and breezed through them.
