Apparently the goodly denizens of Middle Earth enjoy a good piece of tomfoolery now and then. The antics reach their apex during the Autumn Harvest Festival when adventurers and crafting folk are invited to play tricks on others in return for harvest tokens and four special masks.

The masks are divided racially:

Dwarf Mask – Bucket Head

Man Mask – Beaver

Hobbit Mask – Jack O’ Lantern (Pumpkin)

Elf Mask – Rabbit

Each mask costs 12 harvest tokens and a mask promissory note you receive after completing a Trove and Trickery quest. You can repeat each of these four quests once per day and each time you complete one you will earn 3 Harvest Tokens. Be careful to only choose the Mask promissory note once as a reward – you only need one note for your mask.

These masks are purely cosmetic and look … pretty interesting. They are non-binding, so you can transfer them to an alternate character or give them to friends if you like.

To complete each of the quests you must find four denizens of that town and perform an emote while targeting them. You can recognize which NPC you need to talk to by a blue ring above their head. Each one will provide you with a clue as to what emote you should perform.

I have listed the appropriate NPC, their location and the proper emote for each quest below:

Hobbiton

You can take this quest from Trickster Egbert Took (29.9S,71.4W), located under a tent on the west side of the Party Tree.

Porto Brownlock (30.6S,70.7W) /smoke

Ted Sandyman (30.8S,71.2W) /stretch

Lobelia Sackville-Baggins (29.4S,71.3W) /faint

Daddy Twofoot (31.4S,71.1W) /pick

Duillond

The Elven Troves and Tricks quest comes from Trickster Gloreniel (24.5S,93.1W) who is located near the path just outside the area of the Elven festivities in Duillond.

Lubathred (24.3S,92.5W) /cower

Fanhir (24.0S,92.6W) /roar

Nathrowen (24.2S,92.7W) /handstand

Barchiril (25.0S,90.6W) /whippitydo

Bree

A lot of people miss Trickster Bryony Elmwood (30.1S,51.3W), because they expect her to be near the Bree-land party area, but in fact she is located near the Boar Fountain in central Bree town. All the NPCs to be tricked are also located within Bree.

Tad Ashmead (31.3S,51.1W) /dustoff

Tad Leafcutter (31.8S,51.4W) /shiver

Matt Heathertoes (31.2S,52.5W) /mock

Lily Sandheaver (29.4S,52.3W) /yawn

Thorin’s Hall

You get the Dwarven Troves and Tricks quest from Trickster Guthlag located to the right of the large statue in the entrance. Finding the NPCs to trick here from a list like this is slightly more challenging because the ;loc command does not work in Thorin’s Hall.

Fathi, Kaupi or Farmann (Auctioneers in room behind Guthlag) /charge

Adwyn Flameye(near the hunter trainer) /pushups

Dwalin(on the throne in very back) /tantrum

Egil Oldbeard (in Maker’s Hall near a supplier) /flex

The Harvest Festival is once more upon us, and the good Free Peoples of Middle Earth are once more celebrating the seasonal turn with games and merriment.

There are several different components of the Harvest Festival: horse and pony races, trick-playing, harvest party games and the carry over farming event from the Summer Festival. In this post I’ll go over the four repeatable party games.

There is one game located near each race’s starting zone and you can complete each quest once every hour. These games, aren’t really games as we might think of one. They each involve simply looting a container next to the festival barter merchant, called the Game Master, then turning it into him or her. When looting the container you have a random chance of receiving one of three grades of a particular item.

After looting that item from the container, you can then turn it in to the Game Master for Harvest Tokens. You then use these Harvest Tokens to barter with the merchant for a variety of items, comprised mainly of house decorations.

Bree-land

Pick a Pumpkin from the small patch located next to Bess Forester (24.6S, 51.3W). She is located at the Bree-land party grounds north of the town of Bree. You can turn in these pumpkins for the following rewards:

Small Pumpkin – 1 Harvest Token

Medium Pumpkin – 2 Harvest Tokens

Large Pumpkin – 3 Harvest Tokens

The Shire

Bob for Apples in the tubs located near Sawlo Puddifoot (29.9S, 71.62W), The Shire’s Game Master. He is located just to the south-west of the famous Party Tree. You can turn in these apples for the following rewards:

Small Apple – 1 Harvest Token

Medium Apple – 2 Harvest Token

Large Apple – 3 Harvest Token

Thorin’s Hall

Reach inside the chest and pick out a geode. Give it to Thorin’s Hall’s Game Master, Dyri (13.7S, 103W). He is located in the Dwarven Tavern located underground. The tunnels to reach it are in the north-eastern part of the city. You can turn in these geodes for the following rewards:

Cracked Geode – 1 Harvest Token

Pristine Geode – 2 Harvest Token

Flawless Geode – 3 Harvest Token

Duillond

If you are not familiar with the town of Duillond, it is located just north of Celondim in Ered Luin. Here you will be looting scrolls for your tokens and handing them in to Malenfas (24.5S, 93W), the Games Master for the proud Elves. You can turn in these scrolls for the following rewards:

Unimpressive Scroll – 1 Harvest Token

Well-Written Scroll – 2 Harvest Token

Elegant Scroll – 3 Harvest Token

Ered Luin, also known as Ered Lindon and the Blue Mountains, is the LotRO home to the Dwarf and Elf races. Like Bree-land and the Shire there are a good number of deeds to be completed here.

Like the Bree-land deed The History of the Dúnedain, Ered Luin has the deed Elf-Ruins Exploration which you can complete by visiting several areas representing ancient abodes of the Elves in the area. For completing this deed you will receive the Virtue Trait Wisdom+1.

Nen Hilith (29.4S, 95.2W)

Tham Gelair (27.5S, 94.4W)

Limael’s Vineyard (26.2S, 95.9W)

Dol Ringwest (24.9S, 95.0W)

The Wardspire (17.8S, 90.1W)

To help find these locations, the direct link to the Middle Earth HQ map of Ered Luin is here.

Lore: The Blue Mountains

From Wikipedia entry on Ered Luin:

“The mountain range was broken during the war of the Valar against Morgoth, and at the middle of the range the sea broke through, creating a new terminus for the river Lhûn. In the middle of the gap, where the Lhûn met the sea, the Grey Havens of Mithlond of the Elven Kingdom of Lindon were built. When seen as the border of Lindon the Ered Luin were called Ered Lindon.”

From lotro.com’s Points of Interest:

“Hundreds of years before the events of The Lord of the Rings, the Elves of Lindon founded a refuge upon the slopes of Ered Luin, where wood for the White Ships was gathered and elven wine was made. Edhelion, it was called, and it was a place of contemplation and peace . . . until Skorgrím Dourhand, an evil Dwarf-lord descended from the kings who once ruled the long-ruined kingdoms of the Blue Mountains, led his people, allied with goblins and trolls, against this elven refuge”
